Governor M in Beach Gold

Constructed from the highest grade of stainless steel, it’s super light yet ultra flexible. We’ve included Polycarbonate lenses – which means that you get the lightest but the toughest lenses in the market guaranteed never to crack & break. Super-Flexible Design

Our lenses are also Polarised, which helps in cutting indirect glare from the sun. By contrast, normal sunglasses cut only the direct source of glare – which is the sun, but they allow all sorts of nasty indirect glare to enter your eyes. Some examples of indirect glare include glare from road tar, metal bodies of vehicles & water. Take a look at this un-retouched image below to see the difference for yourself.

The Glassic Magic Part 1 – Virtual Try On

In my previous post, I spoke about what Glassic is about, what the problems of the eyewear industry are & how Glassic aims to solve them. Now, I’m going to tell you about our groundbreaking features we use to help you buy eyeglasses online and buy sunglasses online:

  1. Virtual Try On
  2. Prescription Lens Recommendation Tool

In this post, I write about the virtual try on. But before I go any further, I’d like to show you a fun video we made showcasing just what’s possible with it 😀

Mind = Blown? 😉

So what is the Virtual Try On?

The Glassic virtual try on is a state of the art technology that aims at revolutionising the digital eyewear purchasing experience. Simply turn your webcam on, and immerse yourself in an experience so close to shopping in store you might just forget you’re doing it all in front of your laptop screen. This is the first time that a feature like this has been launched in India.

Because you can’t physically try on the glasses you buy online, we thought it’s vital to provide you with an alternate tool that easily allows you to decide which glasses would look best on you.

The virtual try on is a Flash based software so you will have to enable Flash on your computer & browser. Also, make sure you’re updated to the latest version as the tool works best with it. The Virtual Try On currently works only on desktop & laptop computers.

Virtual & Physical Try On Comparison

How do you use it?

Glassic’s entire catalogue can be virtually tried on. And it’s really easy to start it off too.

When you’re in the product detail page, you will notice a button below the product photo which says “Virtual Try On”. Click on the button & after a few seconds, you will see a small dialogue box which shows you the ideal lighting scenario you should be seated in.

Go ahead and click “Ready”. That’s it, have fun trying on the glasses!

Check out the how-to video below.

How is it better than shopping in store?

How many times have you felt that your glasses don’t match with your favourite outfits? Can you imagine carrying different attires to an optical store to see how it matches with the glasses you try out? Sounds absurd, right?

Or, do you feel just plain awkward when you’re trying out glasses in store and the salesperson’s just waiting for you to finish so that he can move on to the next sale? What about that nosey customer whose ogling at you and checking out the stuff you’re trying out?

With the virtual try on, you will be within the comfort of your own space & without any sales people or shoppers ogling at you, you can easily try on different glasses with varied attires (and expressions).

Looking for glasses for work? Or for an outing with friends? For the gym to impress that pretty girl? Go ahead, try out how many ever looks you like! And you’re free to share these looks with any of your loved one’s to get their opinions. You have the power to share it with who ever you like to! This is how, we think, the virtual try on will transform the way you buy glasses.

Check out the first video on the top of this post to understand what I mean!

You’re also probably wondering that all this looks & sounds great. But how accurate is it actually? Here’s some feedback we’ve received from users & customers about the virtual try on.

Paying Too Much for Glasses – A Thing of The Past

Hey folks! Our previous post was a tribute to Marvel where we showed the conversation that took place between me & Devesh about why we started Glassic & how the idea came to life.

In this article, I’ve highlighted in detail as to why glasses cost so much and how Glassic is trying to change the game.

Do you ever wonder why you pay *so* much for glasses? Have you ever tried to buy eyeglasses or sunglasses online looking for “cheaper” solutions, but they’ve turned out to be a bit too cheap? Or you’ve found something that looks good on screen, but didn’t know if that pair would suit you? Or realised that the designs of frames & site were just so bad that it made you shut the site & never visit again?!

To begin with, let me throw some light on the first question by asking you another question: which is your favourite eyewear brand? Ray-Ban? Oakley? Prada? Or Bvlgari? Ever wonder who makes these eyewear? It should make sense when I tell you that Ray Ban makes Ray Ban & Oakley makes Oakley and so on. I only wish it were true.

80% of major eyewear brands are manufactured, distributed & retailed by a single company. That’s right. Just ONE. And if you ask me, there really is not much of a difference in quality between these brands. Their designs are great. But is it really warranted for you to pay 5 figure sums of money for just the brand label and succumb to this environment of artificial competition created by this entity?

If you answered “no” for my last question, then I have something that would be of  interest to you. What if I told you that there is a start-up which recognises this lopsidedness? And that they have created a website where you can get really awesome pairs of eyewear for a fraction of the price? How much you ask? How does Rs. 1,999 sound to ya?

Rs. 1,999 for any frames or sunglasses (all polarised lenses) – all made from the same raw material as branded eyewear. I’m Kailash Nichani, one of the two co-founders of Glassic. Check us out here: www.glassic.in

“How the heck is it possible to provide great quality at such an affordable price, Kailash?”, you might ask. Well, a simple tweak to the supply chain is what has allowed us to do so. We design, manufacture & sell our own eyewear – no middleman, therefore no redundant costs to be borne by you.

Great, now that you know what we do, you might be wondering about the answers to the other set of questions I asked in the first paragraph. These are some very common issues that you would face when you try to buy a pair of glasses online.

So, here’s how we’ve tried to overcome those hurdles:

First off, we’ve got an insanely easy to use interface which shows you *only* the stuff that’s important for you to see in order to make your purchase decision.

Second, we have a state-of-the-art virtual try on feature. And I’m not talking about that “Upload Your Photo” nonsense. Ours is a 3D augmented reality based software that uses your webcam to show you a live feed of yourself. It’s like you’re sitting in front of a mirror!

Third, our prescription tool recommends the best lens for you, in terms of thickness, based on your power (prescription required). Toggle around our options to understand the features & pricing using our simple 4 step process. And since we believe in providing you with only the best, we have an exclusive tie up with the world’s best lens manufacturer, Essilor.

All our frames & sunglasses have a one year limited warranty, 14 day free returns & COD. All lens orders come along with an authenticity card straight from Essilor.

Go ahead and give us a try. You won’t be disappointed!

PS: Startups interested to get your hands on our eyewear for your teams are welcome to touch base with me. We could set up exclusive pricing options just for you.

Why We Started Glassic

Our first blog post is a tribute to a man and a company who has captured the hearts of millions of people across the globe by daring to think different and ended up producing a whole new world of characters, design, printing techniques & art – the one and only Stan Lee, the creator of the Marvel Universe.

Here are the co-founders of Glassic, Kailash & Devesh Nichani, in the exact moment when they conceived the idea of Glassic. Depicted in true Marvel comics style.
